Popular with royalty both north and south of the border, The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was allegedly first brought from France to the UK by Mary Queen of Scots, on her return home in the 16th Century. Devoted to the breed, it is reported that after her beheading in 1587, a small spaniel was found lodged in the Queen’s petticoats, where she lay.
Of course, the naming of the breed took place later in the 17th Century, during the reign of King Charles I and his son Charles II, making them a firm favourite amongst the royal and domestic households alike.
At Ollie & Ivy, our regal doggie chums represent the quintessential cottage and historic gardens of Britain throughout the years.
